Codio headed to Wisconsin

- By Adam Lichtenstein

When Jordana Codio goes to college in 2022, she’ll be heading back home.

The American Heritage-Delray rising sophomore star used to live in Wisconsin, and on Friday, she announced her commitment to the Wisconsin Badgers.

“Madison is a beautiful city; I really love it,” she said. “And about the whole team: I love the coaching staff. They work really well together, and I feel like it would be a really great fit for me.”

Codio also cited Wisconsin’s academic programs as a major reason for her commitment.

“The University of Wisconsin is also a really [good] academic school, which is also a really big factor for college,” Codio said. “So I really do love all that.”

Codio is just coming off her freshman year, so she has several years before she signs her letter of intent. But she said she knew Wisconsin was the place for her.

“I really love the coaching staff, and you want to go to a college that they love and want you as much as you want to go there,” Codio said. “I feel like that’s what made me want to [commit now].”

Codio had a breakout freshman season for American Heritage. She was a first-team All County pick after finishing the season averaging 24 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and two blocks per game.

Codio helped turn the program around; in 2017-18, the Stallions went 3-18, but with Codio last season, they finished 20-9 and made the playoffs.

“I’m just going to keep working and go in there and benefit and help the team as much as I can,” she said.
