AROUND THE HORN

Cardinals: Paul DeJong hit an RBI single off Edwin Diaz in the 10th inning, and the Cardinals completed their rally from a night earlier to beat the Mets 5-4 Friday. The game Thursday was suspended after 81⁄2 innings, moments after the Cardinals’ Harrison Bader drove in the tying run with a two-out double off Diaz in the rain. Play resumed where things left off, and a small crowd at Citi Field saw Carlos Martinez (1-0) pitch a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth. Diaz (1-4) then jogged out of the bullpen to continue his outing. Pinch hitter Yairo Munoz led off with a single, stole second and advanced to third on Matt Carpenter’s groundout. DeJong followed by grounding a ball into left field to score Munoz.

Indians: Ace Corey Kluber has been cleared to work on strength building after having his broken arm evaluated. Manager Terry Francona said the report on Kluber was good. He said Kluber has “the go ahead to do strengthening stuff ” and will be re-evaluated in a couple more weeks. Francona also said right-hander Cody Anderson had surgery Friday to repair a tendon in his right elbow. Anderson appeared in five games for the Indians this season and was sent down to the minors last month. Kluber is 2-3 with a 5.80 ERA this season. The twotime Cy Young Award winner broke his pitching arm when he was hit by a line drive May 1.

Yankees: Slugger Aaron Judge is set to join Giancarlo Stanton on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre. The Yankees announced Judge would begin his assignment Friday night. They also transferred Stanton’s rehab from Class A Tampa to Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre. Judge, the 2017 AL Rookie of the Year and a two-time All-Star, has been sidelined since April 20 because of a strained left oblique. Stanton, the 2017 NL MVP, has not played for the Yankees since March 31 because of biceps, shoulder and calf injuries. Manager Aaron Boone has said Stanton could be activated before Tuesday’s home game against Tampa Bay if he gets through this weekend with no problems. Judge probably would need a little longer stint with the Triple-A club.

Extra innings: Red Sox reliever Heath Hembree has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained right elbow. Hembree is 1-0 with a 2.51 ERA and one save in 31 appearances. He is working on a streak of nine straight games without allowing a run. Boston recalled rookie left-hander Josh Taylor to fill the void in the bullpen. ... Athletics outfielder Stephen Piscotty will be out until at least next week after he had a melanoma removed from his right ear. ... Mariners pitcher Felix Hernandez pulled himself out of his first minor league rehab start because of fatigue. Hernandez exited after throwing 31 pitches for Triple-A Tacoma. The Mariners said Hernandez came out of the game when he wore down, not with pain. Hernandez allowed two hits and two runs in 21⁄3 innings against San Antonio before coming out. Seattle had hoped their former ace would throw between 50-60 pitches.
