AROUND THE HORN

■ Braves: In an effort to bolster their bullpen, the Braves acquired All-Star closer Shane Greene from the Tigers for two minorleaguers and right-hander Mark Melancon from the Giants for RHPs Dan Winkler and Tristan Beck. Greene, 30, has 22 saves in 25 chances with a 1.18 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 38 innings. In 48 relief appearances, the 34-year-old Melancon is 4-2 with a 3.50 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 461⁄3 innings. The Braves also acquired C John Ryan Murphy from the Diamondbacks for cash considerations. Murphy, 28, is hitting .177 with four HRs and seven RBIs im 25 games . ... Josh Donaldson homered off Sean Doolittle in the top of the 10th, and the Braves pulled out a 5-4 victory over the host Nationals to take two of three in the series and pad their NL East lead to 61⁄2 games.

■ Cubs: The Cubs acquired OF Nicholas Castellanos and cash considerations from the Tigers for a pair of RHP prospects. Castellanos, 27, is hitting .273 with 11 HRs and 37 RBIs in 100 games. Castellanos entered Wednesday’s games with 37 doubles, tied for most in the majors with the Red Sox’s Rafael Devers. The Cubs also acquired utility man Tony Kemp from the Astros for C Martin Maldonado and lefthander Brad Wieck from the Padres for right-handed reliever Carl Edwards Jr.

■ Athletics: With the A’s expecting LHP Sean Manaea back soon from offseason shoulder surgery, they acquired RHP Tanner Roark from the Reds to help fill out their rotation for a playoff push. Roark, 32, is 6-7 with a 4.24 ERA in 21 starts. The Reds, who received OF prospect Jameson Hannah, will send the A’s $2.1 million to offset much of the $3.3 million left in Roark’s $10 million salary.

■ Twins: The Twins acquired Sam Dyson from the Giants for RHPs Prelander Berroa and Kai Wei Teng and OF Jaylin Davis. In 49 relief appearances, Dyson, 31, is 4-1 with a 2.47 ERA and 47 strikeouts in 51 innings.

■ Brewers: Looking to add pitching depth, the Brewers acquired LHP Drew Pomeranz and RHP Ray Black from the Giants for INF prospect Mauricio Dubon. Pomeranz, 30, is 2-9 with a 5.68 ERA and 92 strikeouts in 772⁄3 innings. He has 17 starts but recently moved to the bullpen. Black, 29, made 26 relief appearances last season and two so far this season.

■ Rays: The Rays acquired 1B Jesus Aguilar from the Brewers for RHP Jake Faria. Aguilar, 29, an AllStar last season, is hitting .225 with eight HRs and 34 RBIs. The Rays also acquired RHPs Trevor Richards and Nick Anderson from the Marlins for RHP Ryne Stanek and minor league OF Jesus Sanchez. Richards, 26, who recently lost his spot in the Marlins rotation, is 3-12 with a 4.50 ERA. Anderson, 29, is 2-4 with a 3.92 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 432⁄3 innings.

■ Dodgers: Will Smith hit a three-run HR in the ninth to break open a scoreless game and lead the Dodgers to a 5-1 road win over the Rockies. Kristopher Negron also went deep during the rally and Alex Verdugo finished with four hits.
