Mahomes exits game with right knee injury
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes injured his right knee on a sneak Thursday night against the Broncos.
The reigning league MVP stayed down on the field for quite some time after picking up a first down on fourth-and-short in the second quarter. He put an arm around each trainer as he made his way off the field. Mahomes, who entered the game with a sore ankle, then slowly left the field at Mile High Stadium.
Mahomes then soon left for the locker room, walking under his own power but with a limp. He was only in the X-ray room for two minutes before the Chiefs ruled him out for the rest of the game.
The Chiefs were leading 10-6 at the time of Mahomes’ exit. He was 10 of 11 for 76 yards with a touchdown — his 15th of the season to go against just one interception — before the injury.
Matt Moore replaced Mahomes, and the Chiefs extended their lead to 20-6 at half with a field goal and a defensive touchdown.
Jets’ Mosley ready: C.J. Mosley broke his own news with an announcement the Jets and their fans have been waiting to hear for weeks.
“I’m playing Monday night,” the linebacker declared. “... Unless I get hurt or something. I’m playing.”
The Jets will have Mosley against the undefeated Patriots. He has been sidelined since injuring his groin during the Jets’ season-opening loss to the Bills.
Mosley, 27, a four-time Pro Bowler, signed a fiveyear, $85 million deal in March after he played his first five seasons with the Ravens.
Okung back soon: The Chargers finally received good news regarding a player’s availability when Russell Okung announced he was returning.
The team’s starting left tackle had been out since June after suffering a pulmonary embolism, a blood clot in his lung.
He remains on the nonfootball illness list. Once Okung practices, the Chargers have three weeks to activate him.
On social media, Okung called his road back “an intense battle” and wrote that he would be “back to football as early as Week 7.”
Okung, 32, a two-time Pro Bowler, and the Chargers also reworked his contract in order to give him the opportunity to earn his entire scheduled 2019 salary of $13 million.
