Williamson to undergo tests on sore right knee

Pelicans rookie forward Zion Williamson, the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft, will miss the team’s final preseason game Friday against the Knicks in New York because of right knee soreness.

Williamson will stay in New Orleans for more tests. There’s no timetable yet for his return.

Williamson appeared in all four of the Pelicans’ preseason games so far, averaging 23.3 points and 6.5 rebounds while playing 27.3 minutes.

G Bradley Beal and the Wizards agreed to a two-year extension worth nearly $72 million. The new deal kicks in for the 2021-22 season with a player option for the following season. The 26-year-old Beal, a two-time All-Star, has played more minutes than any other NBA player in the last two regular seasons, is one of only five players to not miss a game in that span — and is the lone player to have started all 82 games in both of those seasons. He’s also an elite scorer, 12th in the league last season at a career-best 25.6 points per game . ... Rashan Michel, an Atlanta businessma­n and former NBA and college referee, was spared prison time after pleading guilty in federal court in the college basketball scandal that paid bribes to steer top athletes to certain schools and money managers.

Auto racing: Clint Bowyer, 40, reached an agreement with Stewart-Haas Racing to return to the No. 14 Ford next NASCAR Cup Series season . ... F1 reached a preliminar­y agreement to race in Miami in May of 2021. The deal must still be approved by Miami-Dade County officials later this month.

Golf: Byeong Hun An of South Korea shot an openingrou­nd 8-under 64 to take a one-stroke lead at the PGA Tour’s CJ Cup at Nine Bridges in Jeju Island, South Korea. ... Nasa Hataoka of Japan and Amy Yang of South Korea each shot an opening-round 5-under 67 to share a one-stroke lead at the LPGA Shanghai.
