■ Cardinals: A doubleheader between the Cardinals and Tigers scheduled for Thursday was postponed to allow more time for additional COVID-19 testing. MLB opted to postpone the doubleheader to continue additional testing while players and staff are quarantined before the team returns to play. More details about the Cardinals’ resumption of play will be announced later this week. The Cardinals had a series against the Pirates set to start Monday postponed after a weekend series against the Cubs was scrapped due to three positive coronavirus tests. The Cardinals had two more players and a staff member test positive for the virus on Friday and have had eight positive players overall, including star C Yadier Molina. There have now been 29 games postponed by MLB because of coronavirus concerns. The Cardinals haven’t played since July 30 and have had 15 games scrapped.

■ Rays: RHP Charlie Morton was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday due to inflammation in his pitching shoulder. The move came one day after Morton (1-1, 5.40 ERA) was removed from a start against the Yankees in the third inning. The 36-yearold Morton, an All-Star in 2018 and 2019, went 16-6 last year in his first season with the Rays. The roster opening by reinstating lefty reliever Jose Alvarado from the paternity list.

■ Diamondbacks: LHP Madison Bumgarner was placed on the 10-day IL with a mid-back strain. Bumgarner is 0-3 with the D’backs after signing a fiveyear, $85 million contract in December. He allowed six runs and five hits in two innings, struck out two and walked two in a loss Sunday to the Padres. Afterward, D’backs manager Torey Lovullo said the 31-year-old Bumgarner exited after experiencing back spasms.

■ Mets: RHP Marcus Stroman announced that he’s opting out of the season. Stroman becomes the second high-profile Mets player to opt out, joining slugger Yoenis Cespedes, who did so earlier this month. Stroman, who was acquired from the Blue Jays at the trade deadline last season, hadn’t pitched this season because of a torn calf muscle. He has accrued enough service time to qualify for free agency after this season.

■ Dodgers: Right-handed reliever Joe Kelly was placed on the 10-day IL with right shoulder inflammation. The move was retroactive to Sunday. Kelly hasn’t allowed a run over 61⁄3 innings in seven games. He has given up five hits to go with five walks and five strikeouts. Less than two weeks ago, Kelly was suspended by MLB for eight games for throwing two pitches near the heads of Astros hitters, a penalty he’s appealing. The 32year-older is on the IL for the fifth time in his career.

■ Indians: Manager Terry Francona will return to the Indians on Tuesday after missing more than a week so he could rest while dealing with a gastrointestinal condition. Francona will be in the dugout when the Indians open a twogame home series against the Cubs. Francona, 61, has missed the Indians’ last eight games with the issue.
