Outspoken Huskers rewarded with trip to the Horseshoe

- By Matt Murschel

Nebraska (0-0) at

No. 5 Ohio State (0-0)

Noon Saturday, FOX

Nebraska officials spent the last few months hammering the Big Ten for its decision to postpone football until the spring. When the league announced its plans for a return, Big Ten officials rewarded the Huskers with a trip to Columbus to take on the defending conference champions. Ohio State has won five consecutive games in this series by an average of 34 points per game. Nebraska is 6-12 in conference games under coach Scott Frost, including 0-6 against ranked teams. “We’re a proud member of the Big Ten,” Frost said in August. “We want to play a Big Ten schedule. I think the only reason we would look at any other options is if for some reason the Big Ten wasn’t playing and only a handful of teams from the Big Ten wanted to continue playing. I think if that’s the case, I think we’re prepared to look at any and all options.” Two months later, Frost and the Huskers will finally get their wish as the Big Ten season kicks off.

No. 2 Alabama (4-0, 4-0 SEC) at Tennessee (2-2, 2-2)

3:30 p.m. Saturday, CBS

Alabama quarterback Mac Jones has passed for 400-plus yards in three straight Crimson Tide games, with the redshirt junior leading the nation in passer rating (220.10) while ranking second in passing yards per game (379.5) and completion percentage (78.7%). Tennessee, meanwhile, is looking to avoid its first three-game losing streak since 2017. The Volunteers have turned the ball over seven times during the past two games, including two interceptions for touchdowns during last week’s loss to Kentucky.

No. 17 Iowa State (3-1, 3-0 Big 12) at No. 6 Oklahoma State (3-0, 2-0)

3:30 p.m. Saturday, FOX

The winner of this game gains an upper hand in the race for the Big 12 title. Oklahoma State is pushing to open a season 4-0 for the first time since 2015 thanks, in part, to a defense that is allowing nine points per game. Iowa State has bounced back from its opening loss to Louisiana to win three straight games with the help of running back Breece Hall, who leads the league in rushing (531 yards) and rushing touchdowns (8).

No. 18 Michigan (0-0) at No. 21 Minnesota (0-0)

7:30 p.m. Saturday, ABC

Minnesota (0-0) looks to ride a wave of momentum following its record-setting 11-win season in 2019. Quarterback Tanner Morgan, who set school records in passing yards (3,253) and passing touchdowns (30), looks to lead a Golden Gophers team eager to snap a 16-game home losing steak to Michigan. Joe Milton is replacing Shea Patterson at quarterback this season for the Wolverines, who are looking to make an early statement.

No. 9 Cincinnati (3-0, 1-0 AAC) at No. 16 SMU (5-0, 2-0)

9 p.m. Saturday, ESPN2

The winner of this game one could become the Group of 5’s best hope of finally sending a team to the College Football Playoff semifinals. Cincinnati has allowed four touchdowns during the last three games and features a trio of players (Arquon Bush, Ahmad Gardner and Coby Bryant) who have two interceptions apiece. SMU, on the other hand, has scored 26 touchdowns and is paced by running back Ulysses Bentley IV, who leads the league in rushing yards (506) and rushing touchdowns (8).
