Bad Bunny, Daddy Yankee win big

Bad Bunny and Daddy Yankee triumphed at the Billboard Latin Music Awards on Wednesday, claiming seven trophies apiece at the pandemicde­layed show.

Bad Bunny won artist of the year, the night’s top honor, as well as top Latin album for “X 100PRE” and songwriter of the year. He did not attend the ceremony.

Daddy Yankee won six of his awards for his hit “Con Calma,” which featured the 1990s artist Snow. His honors included the hot Latin song, and song of the year honors for streaming and airplay and digital platforms.

Actress Gaby Espino hosted the ceremony, which aired live on Telemundo from the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida. The event had a red carpet, but no audience.

Mexican romance singer-songwriter Armando Manzanero received a Lifetime Achievemen­t Award during the ceremony.

Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee were also recognized for “Despacito,” which was named song of the decade.

Nelly releases new country rap single: As announced on “Dancing With the Stars” Monday night as well as on his social media, St. Louis No. 1 celeb Nelly has released a new single called “Lil Bit” with country act Florida Georgia Line.

The song was released to streaming platforms late Thursday night.

Referencin­g “hip-hop on the hoedown,” the catchy, twangy number rolls along effortless­ly, and sounds like the rapper’s biggest bid for a fresh hit in years. It’s from his upcoming EP “Heartland.”

Nelly and Florida Georgia Line are known for making big music together. Their “Cruise” remix is one of the biggest country songs of all time.

DuVernay to produce TV drama: NBC has given a pilot commitment to the Native American family drama “Sovereign,” which boasts Ava DuVernay among its executive producers.

The pilot was written by Sydney Freeland and Shaz Bennett from a story by DuVernay. All three will executive produce with Bird Runningwat­er coexecutiv­e producing. Sarah Bremner and Paul Garnes of DuVernay’s ARRAY Filmworks will also coexecutiv­e produce. ARRAY will produce in associatio­n with Warner Bros. Television, where DuVernay is currently under an overall deal.

Per NBC, “Sovereign” marks the first Native American family drama developed for network television. The project chronicles the lives, loves and loyalties of a sprawling

Indigenous family struggling to control the future of their tribe against outside forces and themselves.

“Sovereign” marks the latest TV project for DuVernay, who is executive producer on the OWN shows “Queen Sugar” and “Cherish the Day.” She also set up the unscripted series “Home Sweet Home” at NBC earlier this year, while she is currently prepping a limited series about Colin Kaepernick at Netflix. She was behind the Emmywinnin­g series “When They See Us.”
