In Coconut Creek, it’s time for a change
I read your endorsements of candidates for Coconut Creek Commissioners. I am following the election with a personal interest. [“Endorsements: Coconut Creek voters should look to the future for a real change,” Feb. 17]
I have been a resident of Coconut Creek for over 30 years. I have watched our small town grow with expediency over the years. I do think development is necessary, but in a way that includes the residents’ input.
Three years ago, I came back to my home in Coconut Creek, having been gone for the summer and fall months, to find that a 150,000-square-foot building was being erected virtually next to my backyard and barn. Subsequently, we found out that the private school located behind me built what they called International Residential Village, without notice to the nearby community. We filed suit in 2018 against the city of Coconut Creek and North Broward Preparatory School. Through our discovery, we then filed an amended complaint to include civil conspiracy.
Many of these commissioners and staff members have been in government for 20-plus years and are very cozy with the developers and their representatives. The residents have little to no notice of upcoming important issues.
I think your endorsements are spot on and I hope the residents follow your advice and elect new ideas, principles, transparency and accountability. Thank you for supporting much needed change!
