Thomas leads Chiefs ‘D’ in comeback win

Standout defensive lineman R Mason Thomas had a big performance in Cardinal Gibbons’ comeback win over Miami Gulliver Prep.

The Chiefs senior and Iowa State commit had four tackles, two tackles for loss and two sacks in Cardinal Gibbons’ 36-33 victory in the Class 4A regional finals.

Here are some more top performers from Broward and Palm Beach county teams in the regional finals:

Cedrick Bailey | Chaminade-Madonna

Bailey completed 19 of 26 passes for 325 yards and tossed four touchdowns in the Lions’ 48-0 win over Cardinal Newman in the Class 3A regional finals.

Anthony Hankerson | St. Thomas Aquinas

Hankerson rushed for 77 yards and two touchdowns as the Raiders rolled to a 56-7 win over Homestead in the Class 7A regional finals.

Dylan Rizk | Cardinal Gibbons

Rizk completed 24 of 33 for 249 yards and a touchdown in the Chiefs’ win. Although he threw three interceptions, Rizk added 111 yards and three touchdowns on the ground, including an 8-yard score for the winning touchdown.

Chauncey Bowens | Benjamin

Bowens rushed for 126 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries, but the Buccaneers fell to Lakeland Christian in the Class 3A regional finals.

Kamari Moulton | Cardinal Gibbons

Moulton had 137 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries as Cardinal Gibbons’ came back to beat Gulliver Prep.

Davion Gause | Chaminade-Madonna

The Lions’ sophomore running back carried the ball 12 times for 91 yards and had three catches for 55 yards and a score as Chaminade rolled to a win.

The Raiders senior linebacker had four tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack and a forced fumble as St. Thomas held Homestead to one touchdown. He also forced two safeties.

Justin Bostic | Palm Beach Central

Bostic had an interception in the Broncos’ 34-0 loss to Treasure Coast in the Class 8A regional finals.

Zion Turner | St. Thomas Aquinas

Turner, a senior quarterback, completed 6 of 6 passes for 150 yards and a pair of passing touchdowns in St. Thomas’ win. He also added a rushing touchdown.

Jesse Anderson | Cardinal Gibbons

Anderson, a junior wide receiver, led the Chiefs with 95 receiving yards on seven catches in their win over Gulliver Prep.

Jason Bourciquot | Chaminade-Madonna

Bourciquot, a junior wide receiver, led the Lions with 90 receiving yards on four catches, and he had one touchdown in Chaminade’s win.

St. Thomas Aquinas

Sanchez had four catches for 96 yards and a score in the Raiders’ victory over Homestead.

Darrell Sweeting | Benjamin

Sweeting had seven catches for 92 yards in the Buccaneers’ loss in the regional finals.

Tray Brown | Cardinal Gibbons

Brown, a senior linebacker, had a team-leading 12 total tackles and one tackle for loss in the Chiefs’ win.

Jeremiah Smith | Chaminade-Madonna

Smith, a sophomore receiver, had four catches for 78 yards in Chaminade’s victory.

Adonis Allen | Cardinal Gibbons

Allen, a junior defensive back, had nine tackles and an interception in Cardinal Gibbons’ victory.

Crothers had three tackles and two sacks in the Lions’ win over Cardinal Newman.
