American Heritage WR commits to Ohio State

- By Franco Panizo

American Heritage wide receiver Brandon Inniss has made his college commitment for the second time, and it is Ohio State who has come out trumps.

Innis took to Twitter on Tuesday afternoon to reveal that he has committed to the Buckeyes. The player who goes by the nickname of “Showtime” posted a graphic of himself in Ohio State gear in the tweet, and accompanied it with a note that thanked everyone from his parents and siblings to coaches, athletic trainers, and teammates.

“With that being said...for the next 3-4 years I will be taking my academic and athletic abilities to THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY,” read Inniss’ message.

A second-team all-county South Florida Sun Sentinel selection in 2021, Innis had originally committed to Oklahoma last August. Sooners coach Lincoln Riley departed the program three months later to take up the same role with the University of Southern California, prompting Inniss to decommit and reconsider available options.

The University of Miami was among the schools in the mix to land Innis during the second go-around, but the wide receiver has chosen to join an Ohio State team that went 11-2 in 2021 en route to winning the Rose Bowl under coach Ryan Day.

Inniss, who transferred to American Heritage from University School last summer, is coming off a junior season with the Patriots in which he spent time at both wide receiver and quarterback. Inniss, who replaced starter Blake Murphy at the latter position following an injury, threw for 604 yards and seven touchdowns in addition to making 17 catches for 341 yards and two scores last year.

The versatile offensive player also scored another pair of touchdowns on 308 rushing yards, as American Heritage went 6-4 on the campaign.

Listed at 6-feet and 190-pounds, Innis is a five-star prospect in 247Sports’ composite rankings. He is currently considered the second-best receiver in the 2023 class.
