Deputy shot woman who hit him with U-Haul, Palm Beach Sheriff ’s Office says

ROYAL PALM BEACH — A woman is in the hospital and a deputy is on administra­tive leave after an incident in Royal Palm Beach on Sunday.

Just before 4 a.m. Saturday, deputies with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a stolen U-Haul truck in the near Parkwood Drive. The driver, an adult male, was arrested. While deputies were dealing with the male, a female passenger slid into the driver’s seat and drove away.

About an hour later, the stolen truck was located at the Royal Inn Hotel.

According to deputies, as they were trying to make contact with the woman, she drove toward a deputy, hitting him with the vehicle.

This caused the deputy to discharge his firearm. The woman suffered a gunshot wound to the leg.

After hitting the deputy, officials said, the woman continued driving north on Royal Palm Beach Bouevard where she crashed into the fence of a home on Persimmon and Royal Palm Beach boulevards. She then exited the vehicle and ran toward the back of the residence.

A chase began but she was quickly apprehende­d.

The woman, who has outstandin­g out-of-state warrants was taken to a hospital, will be released to the Palm Beach County Jail. The deputy was treated on scene for minor injuries and placed on administra­tive leave.

The woman has been identified as 31-year-old Ginger Taylor. She faces charges of aggravated battery on a law enforcemen­t officer, reckless fleeing and eluding, aggravated fleeing and eluding, reckless driving and resisting with violence.

The sheriff ’s office identified the man driving the stolen U-Haul pickup truck as 27-year-old James Boswell. He’s being held on charges of stealing the truck and on an out-of-state warrant.
