Brian Fairfax Leary passed away February 21, 2023, at his home in Fort Lauderdale. Born April 7, 1951, in Philadelph­ia, Pennsylvan­ia, he was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Fairfax

Leary, Jr. and Sarah O’Neill Leary; sister Sally Englund; brother Michael Leary and sister-in-law Catherine Leary; and niece Sadie Englund. Growing up in Philadelph­ia, Brian graduated from The Episcopal Academy in 1969 before attending Princeton, where he played football and earned a bachelor’s degree in physics in 1973. He then attended the University of Miami, receiving a J.D. in 1978. He moved to Fort Lauderdale to practice law and performed significan­t community service by supporting the Navy League, chairing the Broward County Princeton Schools Committee, volunteeri­ng for numerous local political campaigns, and working on behalf of the homeowners associatio­ns of his Coral Ridge neighborho­ods. Brian was a member of Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church and the Coral Ridge Yacht Club. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Thana; son Thomas Fairfax Leary of Dayton, Ohio; son Christophe­r Caldwell Leary and daughter-in-law Michelle Leary of Plantation, Florida; brother-in-law Dave Englund of Kona, Hawaii; nephew Kirin Englund of Victoria, British Columbia; and niece Catherine Tomezsko of Los Angeles, California. His interests included boating, football, hunting, firearms, reading, history, and his loyal Belgian Malinois, Midnight. Brian was fiercely patriotic and extremely proud of his family heritage. He was a generous supporter of the U.S. Military and causes that benefit its veterans. He was a loving husband and father and a good friend and neighbor. He will be deeply missed. The funeral service will be at Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church, 1800 East Oakland

Park, Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will immediatel­y follow at Evergreen Cemetery, 1300 S.E. 10th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale.
