Ordered shut: twice on May 18 and May 19, remains closed pending reinspection

Why: Inspectors uncovered 10 violations (four of them high-priority), led by seven live flies “underneath three-compartment sink at the bar,” plus at least 91 rodent droppings “beside black reach-in cooler at service station by the kitchen door,” “in the cabinet for backup liqueur at bar,” “underneath dishwashing machine and dishwashing sink at kitchen,” “under reach-in cooler in kitchen,” “below dough machine” and “by the chest freezer” near the walk-in cooler, and beneath the “reach-in cooler across from stove, grill, fryer” in the kitchen.

Inspectors found a “dead rodent in trapped [pest control] device underneath tall reach-in cooler at cook line.” The state also red-flagged other unsanitary conditions, such as a “mold-like substance build-up underneath shelvings, dishwashing, reach-in cooler at bar and kitchen.”

Finally, the restaurant was ordered to stop selling and trash its expired chili, cottage pie, gravy, fish dip and pot pie “due to food not being in a wholesome, sound condition.”

During its next-day inspection, the state ordered them shut again for more rodent droppings and fly woes. The restaurant remains shut pending a follow-up reinspection.

Ordered shut: May 16, reopened May 17

Why: The state red-flagged seven violations (three high-priority), such as four live cockroaches found crawling “under empty beer keg across from water heater away from kitchen,” and “on door of walk-in cooler next to kitchen.” They also saw five live flies “flying next to mop sink area away from kitchen.”

Inspectors also spotted six dead roaches “under water heater next to shelf with cases of sugar and napkins in storage area,” and “under empty [beer] kegs next to dry storage.”

Inspectors spotted one basic violation during their second visit, clearing the restaurant to reopen.
