Reports: Michigan fires staffer Stalions

- News services

Michigan fired Connor Stalions, the low-level football staffer who’s at the center of an NCAA investigation into impermissible scouting of opponents and sign stealing, according to reports Friday night.

Stalions, who was suspended with pay two weeks ago, failed to show up for a scheduled hearing Friday and informed the school through his attorney he wouldn’t participate any internal or external investigations.

The NCAA is investigating Michigan for sending people to opponents’ games to record video that would be used to decode their in-game signals.

Baseball: Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw had left shoulder surgery and anticipates being sidelined until next summer. The 35-year-old in a social media post wrote the surgery with Dodgers head team physician Dr. Neal ElAttrache was to repair the glenohumeral ligaments and his shoulder capsule. “I am hopeful to return to play at some point next summer,” he wrote. “Thanks for your prayers!” Kershaw is a free agent for the third year in a row. He signed one-year contracts each of the last two years to stay with the Dodgers, the only team he’s pitched for since his career began in 2008. Andrew Friedman, Dodgers president of baseball operations, said the team “absolutely” wants the three-time Cy Young Award winner back.

College basketball: The NCAA denied Memphis F DeAndre Williams’ request for an additional year of eligibility. Williams, 27, started 80 games over the last three seasons for the Tigers.

NFL: Deshaun Watson will start at QB for the Browns against the Cardinals on Sunday. Watson has missed all but one quarter of the Browns’ last four games due to a rotator cuff strain.

Soccer: LA Galaxy parted ways with Mexico striker Javier “Chicharito” Hernández, 35, after the expiration of his contract.
