Trump’s debatable danger

-

While I would never vote for Trump, I do not necessarily think that, if he’s elected again, he represents the end of our democracy.

I prefer to think he’s much the product of his past, as are most of us. As a corporate boss, he believed he should be obeyed to the letter, never mind the spirit, of whatever he wanted.

Most Americans, including businessmen, accept limits on what they think they can do. Trump does not. There are no “guardrails” he needs to avoid breaking, nor something he must avoid doing or saying to avoid embarrassment. After serving with those who attempted to restrain him, he promises to remove them or limit their power should he win a new term.

Does this make him evil, a dictator, a fascist? That’s debatable.

I have faith that most people, Republican or Democrat, are savvy, and that at some point, even those who favor him now will ultimately tire of him. While he may have no limits, those who would put him in office do.

The good news is, we may not have to worry. President Biden appears to be narrowing the approval gap between the two. I firmly believe that our people, in the end, will see (and vote for) what’s best for them and for our country.
