Millington to hold hearing on property tax rate hike

Three public hearings are scheduled for Tuesday, April 13 before the Millington Mayor and Council, including one on a proposed property tax increase.

The public hearings are set to begin at 6:30 p.m. While the meeting is closed to public attendance, those who wish to participat­e in the hearings may do so via conference call.

According to the town’s website, the call-in number is 701-802-5458. The access code is 415929.

The town is proposing to increase the property tax rate from 27.7 cents for every $100 of assessed value to 29.085 cents.This would be the first property tax increase since 2002, according to a legal notice.

The notice also states that town expenses have risen by more than 67% since 2002.

If approved, the new tax rate is expected to raise an additional $3,208 in revenue for the town.

A public hearing also is being held that evening on Resolution 2021-03, Amending the Stormwater Management Ordinance.

The third public hearing is being held on Resolution 2021-05, Amending the Vehicle and Traffic Ordinance, and Resolution

2021-07, Amending the Fee Schedule.
