Galena, Rock Hall announce deadlines for May elections
Deadlines to file for candidacy in two municipal elections in Kent County are fast approaching.
The towns of Galena and Rock Hall are both holding elections next month.The Rock Hall election will be held Saturday, May 1. Galena’s election is Tuesday, May 11.
The registration deadline for candidates in both elections is Monday, April 12.
There are two seats on Rock Hall’s town council on the ballot this year; both carry four-year terms. The terms of Rock Hall Vice Mayor Beth Andrews and Councilman Tim Edwards are up this year.
According to a voting guide published by the League of Women Voters of Kent County, the annual salary for Rock Hall council members is $1,500. The two winners will take their seats on the council Monday, May 3, according to the charter.
To qualify for the election, candidates must be at least 25 years old, registered voters of the town and have lived within town limits for at least two years prior to the election.

On the Galena ballot, voters will select a mayor and two council members, as the terms of Mayor John T. Carroll Jr. and councilmen Francis V. Bogdan and Albert H. Piasecki Jr. are coming to a close.
Winners will serve four-year terms. According to the League voting guide, the salary for Galena council members is $75 a month. The new mayor and council members will officially join the board at its July meeting.
Qualified candidates for the Galena Mayor and Council must have been residents of the town for at least one year prior to the election. They also must be qualified voters of the town.
Anyone interested in running can file for the race at the Galena town hall, 101 S. Main St., between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. weekdays through April 12.
The polls will be open at town hall from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 11.
