In with Colvin, out with Harris

Sunday Star - - OPINION -

The election of a Democratic House of Representatives is essential to stop the Republicans in the House from enacting their budget. Their budget for next year plans to cut $1 trillion from Medicare, Social Security, Medicaid and other health programs for the middle class and the poor. This is because the new law providing tax cuts for companies and the richest one percent did not pay for itself, as Republican economists had said. Apparently, they are $1 trillion short.

In addition, Republican senators recently voted down a bill the Democrats tried to pass protecting pre-existing conditions. The Republican plan is to cut off all those of us with pre-existing conditions from regular health insurance, such as ACA (also called Obamacare) or others. If you have a knee or hip replacement, asthma, diabetes, cancer or virtually any other condition you have already been treated for, you will be relegated to the ash-heap of medical insurance.

If you do not want your safety net reduced to pay for the tax cuts for the rich and if you want to protect your right to have a good health insurance despite a pre-existing condition, you must vote for Jesse Colvin, a centrist Democrat and veteran, who will protect your interests in Washington.
