Only a hand­ful of spots have a rep­u­ta­tion as fear­some as the Tahi­tian reef Teahupoo: the name it­self trans­lates to “broken skulls.” But even fewer pad­dlers have the abil­ity to block that fear out of their own skull and chal­lenge the mon­ster when a solid swell shows up. Brazil­ian Ni­cole Pa­celli— known for SUP surf­ing at other heavy waves such as Jaws and Waimea Bay—makes the short list and, she hopes, the chan­nel.
