THE JAPANESE AUTOMOTIVE INVITATIONAL

Super Street - - Etc. -

The coveted Monterey Car Week saw a newcomer this year in the form of the Japanese Automotive Invitational (JAI). An effort put forth by Motor Trend and Infiniti, the two-day event focused on Japanese innovation, design, and performance, and featured some vehicles you’re very familiar with, like Toyota’s ’67 2000GT Roadster. Other standout vehicles such as a Safari gold Hakosuka, early-’90s IMSA GTP Championship car (Toyota’s first carbon-fiber monocoque prototype), and even a picture-perfect Mazda Cosmo Sport complete with its native rotary engine (the first of its kind from the Japanese manufacturer) not only made a statement but also educated attendees who might not have known just how deeply rooted Japanese car culture is.
