Plowboys, Hornets roll

Roscoe hosted Crosbyton this past Friday and got its seventh straight win, 58-8, to improve to 2-0 in District 5-2A, Division II with just two games left.

The Plowboys weren’t the only area football team to win big Friday, though, as Highland beat Robert Lee 72-24 for its first 8-1A win.

Roscoe 58, Crosbyton 8

Roscoe trailed 8-6 in the second period vs. Crosbyton but the Plowboys scored 52 unanswered points to win going away. The Plowboys’ latest win sets up a district showdown at Lockney — also 2-0 in district, 7-1 overall — this Friday at 7 p.m.

Roscoe also dominated the stat sheet with 403 total yards — 191 passing and 212 rushing — to just 26 yards for Crosbyton, which fell to 1-2 district, 4-5 overall.

After Crosbyton took its only lead in the second period, Roscoe scored seven TDs in less than two full quarters on a 35-yard run by Seth Wilcox; a 25-yard run by Jake Gonzalez; a 35-yard pass by Jax Watts to Wilcox; a 50-yard Watts pass to Antonio Aguayo; an 82-yard Wilcox kickoff return; a 10-yard Watts pass to Ivan McCann; and a 3-yard Gonzalez run.

Watts (13 of 19) also hit McCann on an 8-yard touchdown pass that gave Roscoe an early 6-0 lead. Aguayo had five catches for 93 yards and McCann six catches for 58 yards.

Jacob Kises had 11 tackles and one sack; Reese Kiser had 10 tackles, two for a loss and one sack; Gonzales had 10 tackles and recovered a fumble; Richie Solis had nine tackles, two for a loss, one sack and one forced fumble; Trace Guelker had eight tackles, three for a loss, and two sacks; McCann had eight tackles and one sack; and Peyton Friedman had eight tackles, two for a loss, and one sack.

Highland 72, Robert Lee 24

Highland ended a fourgame skid, improved to 4-5 overall and got its first win in district play by defeating Robert Lee (2-6, 0-2), while scoring the last 34 points to put the game out of reach.

Highland trailed 6-0 after one quarter but by halftime was up 32-18 and led 66-24 entering the fourth period.

Kort Sargeant had six TD passes and Bubba Byrne one. Hunter Heady, Kreed Turney and Crae Chapman had two TD catches each and Cooper Bowen one.

Quay Lloyd ran for 83 yards while Turney had two TD runs and Bryson Magee one. Byrne had nine tackles to lead Highland, which will host Bronte this Friday.
