Betty Lee Payne, 89, of Abilene, Texas formerly Sweetwater, Texas, was called home to be with her savior Tuesday, July 19 2022 at Wisteria Place Assisted Living in Abilene. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 23, 2022 at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. Ryan Strebeck officiatin­g. Internment will follow at the Garden of Memories directed by Mccoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater. Betty was born December 23, 1932 in Hamilton County Texas to Irvin and Louvetta (Summerford) Anglin. Betty attended public schools in Hamilton and also obtained a degree from Tarleton college in Stephenvil­le Texas. Betty married James Payne March 12, 1956 in Hamilton Texas. After living in Hamilton and Waco for a number of years Betty and James moved their family to Sweetwater in 1971 so that James could help start up TSTC. Betty spent her career working in the medical field in Sweetwater as a receptioni­st and medical records administra­tor in the offices of Dr. Price and Hood, Dr. Moses and Dr. Martin. She loved being able to serve the community of Sweetwater and getting to know so many of the residents there. After the death of her husband James in 2008, Betty moved to Abilene in 2009 to help care for her granddaugh­ter Shelby. Betty resided in Abilene until her death. She was a longtime member of The First United Methodist Church of Sweetwater and joined Aldersgate Methodist church upon moving to Abilene. Betty was a devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmothe­r and Great Grandmothe­r and was a tremendous­ly positive role model for her family. She loved having family gatherings at her home in Sweetwater and is very fondly remembered for her cooking skills especially sweets. She was preceded in death by her parents Irvin & Louvetta Anglin and her brother Walter Anglin. She is survived by her daughter Shanon Rogers and husband Mason of Alto, Texas, three sons Alan Payne and wife Sandra of Salado, Texas, Kyle Payne of Abilene, Vance Payne and wife Vicki of Midlothian, Texas, eleven grandchild­ren and fourteen great-grandchild­ren.
