Note: A meet for the week of March 25-30 had not late last week been found, but coaches hope to get another meet for Sweetwater before April 3-4 when the district meet in San Angelo is held.

Hamilton led much of the game, and nearly forced extra innings against Sweetwater in Saturday’s final non-district game played at Sportsman’s Park.

But in the seventh, Cali Mendez ended Hamilton’s hopes with a walk-off single giving Sweetwater a 5-4 win over the Bulldogs.

Hamilton grabbed an early 2-0 lead before Sweetwater came back to tie the contest 2-2 after four innings and lead 4-3 after five. And the Mustangs used their last at bat to break a 4-4 tie.

Blayne Bohall drew a oneout walk and went to second when Mason Straley was hit by a pitch. Mendez then singled to right field on a 1-2 count, which allowed Bohall to come home with the winning run for Sweetwater.

Hamilton managed just three hits, but unlike Sweetwater — which finished with 10 — made the most out of its opportunities.

Sweetwater twice left the bases loaded, stranding 11 total runners, but had single runs in the third, fourth and seventh and two in the fifth.

Jadyn Forbes collected three hits and Mendez and Kyler Holsey two. Bohall, Daniel Rodriguez and Jade Rodriguez also had hits.

Bohall scored twice and Cash Barnes, Braxton Bartee and Daniel Rodriguez once and Forbes also had an RBI. On Tuesday, Sweetwater begins district play when it hosts Big Spring at 7 p.m.

Barnes pitched three innings and Bohall and Ayden Costillo two, strking out 11 in all with two walks.

Costillo got credit for the victory.
