FEATURED PRODUCT OF THE MONTH

{ 01) FLIR THERMOSIGHT PRO PTS536 AND PTS736

August 2017. That’s when predator hunters, invasive wildlife control specialists and tactical professionals had the opportunity to first try FLIR’S Thermosight Pro PTS233 thermal-imaging weapon sight. Powered by FLIR’S newest, compact, uncooled, high-performance 12-micron Boson thermal camera core, the 19mm Thermosight Pro PTS233 “set a new standard” in thermal image quality, while offering a “wealth of innovative and intuitive performance features.” And the price rolled in at less than $2,200. But that was last year. This year FLIR introduced two new Thermosight Pro thermal riflescopes: the 50mm Thermosight Pro PTS536 and 75mm Thermosight Pro PTS736.

First Look Both new FLIR Thermosight Pro models are powered by FLIR’S 12-micron pixel pitch FLIR Boson thermal camera core, which delivers smaller, lighter optics with increased image performance and range. Featuring on-chip video processing and an uncompressed video signal fed directly to a bright, high-definition 1280 x 960 FLCOS display, the FLIR Thermosight Pro Series offers improved object detection and classification in the field and clean thermal imagery in any light—from low contrast daylight to total darkness. And this includes smoke, haze and light fog. Both new Thermosight Pro models offer 60Hz video refresh rates, 320 x 256 thermal resolution, USB-C connectivity, user-controlled imaging palettes, image enhancement filters, and built-in digital compass and inclinometer.

Shot-activated onboard recording allows for the internal storage of up to two-and-a-half hours of video or 1,000 JPEG images. Thermosight Pro models also feature multiple reticle and thermal palette options and “crisp” iconology and graphic overlays over virtually all backgrounds.

Features

• The new FLIR Thermosight Pro PTS536 features a 50mm lens, 4x optical magnification, 4x digital zoom and a 4.5°W × 3.5°H FOV.

• The new FLIR Thermosight Pro PTS736 features a 75mm lens, 6x optical magnification, 4x digital zoom and a 3°W × 2.5°H FOV.

The Bottom Line • The new FLIR Thermosight Pro PTS536 and PTS736 will be available through established FLIR dealers in the U.S. at MAPS with price tags set to be $3,795 and $4,795, respectively.

{ 03) LYMAN (TACSTAR) CARBON FIBER AR-15 HANDGUARDS

If you’re looking for a handguard that is rugged, light and looks good, you may not have to look further than Lyman’s carbon fiber AR-15 handguards that feature an integrated Picatinny rail. These are designed to provide an “unbeatable strength-to-weight ratio, offering durability and toughness to go along with their light weight and good looks.” They also stay cool to the touch, even with extensive firing. Trevor Mullen, VP of Global Marketing and Business Development for Lyman Products, said, "Whether you are a competitor, professional or just enjoy a day at the range, this Tacstar carbon fiber handguard will make a difference in your shooting experience. First, you'll notice how lightweight it is at just four ounces. Second, after repeated shooting, the handguard stays cool to the touch. The Tacstar carbon fiber handguard is easy to attach and you'll appreciate its sleek appearance as much as all the other benefits."
