INJURED EAGLE RESCUED AFTER VETERANS CRASH
The traffic snarl that backed up the Veterans Expressway at Hillsborough Avenue early Friday wasn’t because of a fender bender. It was caused by a vehicle-onbald-eagle collision. The eagle was trying to snack on a roadside raccoon when it was hit by a car, according to the Owl’s Nest Sanctuary for Wildlife. The injured raptor is now in that sanctuary’s care with a broken wing. Two Marines noticed what happened and reached out to animal rescuers, the sanctuary said on its Facebook page. It took the Marines, four Florida Highway Patrol officers and two animal rescuers to wrangle the injured bird to safety. The bird appears to be stable, but was getting checked out by veterinarians Friday afternoon.
