Two practices in, Bryant’s season in jeopardy
Receiver Dez Bryant’s stint with the Saints might be over almost before it started as the team fears he tore his Achilles tendon on the last play of his second practice Friday, according to reports.
A torn Achilles would end Bryant’s season and possibly his career. The injury includes a yearlong rehab, making it even more challenging for the 30-year to latch on with another team.
Bryant, who has been unemployed since being cut by the Cowboys on April 13, joined the Saints on Wednesday with a one-year, $600,000 deal.
Bryant indicated in social media posts that he has had a significant setback. The team’s injury report listed Bryant as questionable for Sunday’s game in Cincinnati with an ankle injury.
Bryant wrote on his verified Twitter account, “Things was just starting to heat up for me … I won’t question the man upstairs … this is the ultimate test … thank you everyone for the prayers.” BILLS: Running back LeSean McCoy ended his near two-week silence by saying he wanted to keep his frustrations to himself. “I was just upset how everything’s been going, 2-7,” McCoy said, referring to the Bills’ record. “That’s frustrating. I want to win games, so I just kind of took that approach. Just kind of upset. But my mind-set is just try to get better.” The comments were his first since a 25-6 loss to the Patriots on Oct. 29. COWBOYS: Dallas made changes at receiver, trying to revive one of the NFL’s worst passing attacks before a critical game at Philadelphia. The Cowboys waived a key offseason free agent pickup, former Gator Deonte Thompson, while activating Noah Brown off injured reserve and promoting Lance Lenoir from the practice squad. DOLPHINS: Three starting offensive linemen might be out Sunday. Guard Ted Larsen (neck), a former Palm Harbor U star and Buc, is doubtful, and tackles Laremy Tunsil (knee and ankle) and Ja’Wuan James (knee) are questionable. JAGUARS: Running back Leonard Fournette practiced without any limitations or setbacks all week, and coach Doug Marrone said he was completely healthy for the first time since Week 4.
JETS: Quarterback Sam Darnold was listed as doubtful (right foot sprain), with Josh McCown set to make his first start of the season Sunday and Davis Webb likely to be signed from the practice squad as the backup.
TITANS: The NFL fined safety Kevin Byard $10,026 for celebrating on the Cowboys star logo at midfield Monday night. Byard said the fine was worth it, and he was surprised it wasn’t more.
