After a two-month stint serving Mexican-inspired fare at Lightning games, Capital Tacos has left Amalie Arena. Capital had announced its Amalie opening at the end of September. “Although we all loved to operate the stand, ultimately the nuances of operating in an arena are much different than a brick and mortar location,” owner Josh Luger said in an email. “Unforeseen” operating challenges made it “prohibitive” to continue the stand, he said. The popular local chain will still continue a partnership with the Lightning this season throughout its five full-service locations in Tampa Bay. The shops will have player-inspired tacos of the month with proceeds benefiting nonprofits. Fans had long been clamoring for tacos at the arena, and they won’t be without. Replacement Scrappy’s Tacos, run through the arena’s internal concessionaire, was in Capital’s place as of Thursday.
