MO­TOR­CY­CLIST HIT AND KILLED AT IN­TER­SEC­TION

A 66-year-old man was killed in Westchase on Sun­day morn­ing when his mo­tor­cy­cle was struck by a van. Ac­cord­ing to the Hills­bor­ough County Sher­iff 's Of­fice, about 9 a.m., a 2007 Yamaha FJR mo­tor­cy­cle was stopped be­hind a Nis­san Rogue in the south­bound lane of Race Track Road at the in­ter­sec­tion of Coun­try­way Boule­vard. A Chrysler Town & Coun­try van ap­proach­ing both ve­hi­cles failed to stop, struck both and pushed each into the in­ter­sec­tion. The im­pact also caused the mo­tor­cy­cle to strike the Nis­san. The mo­tor­cy­clist was thrown from his bike and landed in the mid­dle of the in­ter­sec­tion. The mo­tor­cy­clist was air­lifted to St. Joseph's Hospi­tal where he was pro­nounced dead. Al­co­hol is not be­lieved to be a fac­tor in this crash. The name of the mo­tor­cy­clist has not yet been re­leased be­cause the next of kin has not been no­ti­fied.
