Warriors run past South in SYML girls basketball opener

Mountain Basketball opened up league play with a dominating 72-15 home victory over South High.

Riley Walden led the way with 20 points, six rebounds, five steals and three assists), with Jamie Neaderbaom­er (14 points, five assists, three steals), Jaelyn Dock (14 points, five rebounds), Koree Rodden (11 points, six steals, four assists) also scoring in double-figures.

Kennedy Perkins (six points, four steals, three rebounds), Kenadee Gary (three points, three rebounds), Camille Foster (three points), Annie Loken (six rebounds, four steals) and Gabby Bonffil (five rebounds) also made key contributi­ons.

The Warriors led 24-2 at the end of the first quarter and padded their lead at the start of the second half with a 29-point third quarter.

Tehachapi (15-2, continued SYML play at North on Tuesday and will host West on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

In JV girls basketball action, the Warriors defeated South, 42-4. Olivia Roed 11 points), Addison Smith (eight points) and Kylee Christy (seven points).

BOYS BASKETBALL FALLS TO SPARTANS

The Warriors dropped their league opener this past week with a 67-40 loss against South.

Tehachapi (6-12) will look to bounce back this week with a home game scheduled against North on Tuesday and an away contest against West on Thursday, both starting at 6:30 p.m.

In junior varsity action, the Warriors lost 36-26 to South.

Despite the defeat, Tehachapi (4-6; 0-1 SYML) had strong performanc­es from Thaddeus Dyer (eight points, six rebounds), Colton Michael (nine rebounds, five points), Owen Keller (four points), Mason Rothermel (five rebounds, four points) and Aiden Nicholson (three rebounds, three steals).

WRESTLING TO HOST SYML DUAL TODAY

The Warriors will be hosting a dual match today and the community is encouraged to attend.

Dual matches are an exciting way to get introduced to wrestling, learn about the student-athletes in each weight class and learn the team scoring format. Both the Warriors and Lady Warriors will be hosting the West Vikings.

The action will begin at 5 p.m. at the THS Gym today.
