Runners from the city of Tehachapi and the Tehachapi Police Department are asking for the community’s support as they team up to participate in the Bakersfield Marathon on Sunday, April 7, with the goal of raising funds to assist the Tehachapi Police Foundation.

The team consisting of police and city staff will take on the various race distances at the Bakersfield Marathon while fundraising for youth programs in our community.

The Tehachapi Police Department is seeking to start several new initiatives to connect with the youth in Tehachapi; to complete this goal, funding from the Tehachapi Police Foundation is critical.

“We are thankful to all the staff members who will be training for this event while also raising funds for the Tehachapi Police Foundation,” said Chief of Police Richard Standridge. “The Tehachapi Police Foundation is focusing heavily on assisting our officers in making a difference with the youth in Tehachapi, and this marathon is a great opportunity to kick off fundraising to make those programs a reality.”

The Bakersfield Marathon includes the traditional 26.2-mile marathon distance, a 13.1-mile half marathon distance and courses for 10k and 6k races. Each event starts and ends at the Kern County Museum, located at 3801 Chester Ave., Bakersfield.

The Tehachapi team will include at least three runners competing in the full marathon distance and other team members will participate in the other races.

The Tehachapi Police Foundation is a registered 501©3 nonprofit and raises funds to assist TPD with expenses and initiatives outside the normal budget process. Since its inception in 2016, the foundation has raised thousands of dollars for department needs, scholarships for youth and assistance initiatives for local families.
