Friends of the Library to hold audio, book sale events

- BY MARK A. FISHER Mark A. Fisher is with Friends of the Library.

If you enjoy CDs, DVDs and audio books, the Friends of the Library is having a pop-up audio sale at the Golden Hills CSD Yard Sale from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at the Golden Hills CSD Yard.

This is a “bag” sale where you can fill up a bag with CDs, DVDs and audio books for just $5 a bag. The funds generated from all Friends of the Library Book sales go to support programs for children, youth and adults. This includes programs like the upcoming Summer Reading Challenge.

As a reminder, the Friends of the Tehachapi Library’s Spring Book Sale is going to be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 18, in the library courtyard at 212 S. Green St. in Tehachapi. As usual for us, the community has been very generous! There have been so many great donations of books. The Friends of the Library volunteers have been busy getting these books ready for the public.

There will be two areas of books set up in the Library Courtyard. The first area will have vintage/specialty books and will include very reasonably priced antique and other specialty books. The second sale area is the “Bag Sale” area where you fill a provided bag with books and pay $5 for each bag of books at the cashier’s table. Fill as many bags as you like; there’s no limit. Clearance for the Bag Sale starts at 2 p.m. when the bag price drops to only $1 per bag. And the price on the antique and other specialty books drops by 50%. Members of the Friends of the Library enjoy early access from 9 to 10 a.m. Community membership is $10 a year, available at the door at 9 a.m., or by agreeing to volunteer four hours a month.

The Friends of the Library can still use “lifters” to volunteer to help set up the book sale. As always, moving the numerous boxes of books from our storage unit over to the Library Courtyard is a big task for us. This will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday, May 17. In addition we’ll need some lifters to help take down the sale on Saturday after 4 p.m. That means put unsold books back in storage, donate to nonprofits, or whatever else needs to be done. There are benefits for our lifters. First, they can do a bit of early shopping on Friday night (as early as 5:30 to 6:30 p,m.). They are also welcome to come to the early shopping period on Saturday. But we do need to have the lifters be in good shape and able to lift 30 pounds.
