Fishing derby, Memorial Day observance, other events coming up
Mark your calendars for a number of special community events coming up, including:
Fishing Derby: The annual fishing derby at Brite Lake, sponsored by TVRPD, will be held from 6 a.m. to 1:05 p.m. on May 18 at 22902 Banducci Road. Registration is underway, and discounts are offered for preregistration. All participants 16 and up must have a California fishing license. Same-day registration is $35 for adults and $30 for children, with a discount for multiple children. Cash prizes in three age categories and a chance to with up to $2,000 by catching a tagged fish (by a set deadline) add to the fun. Find information and register online at tvrpd.org/ fishingderby.
Memorial Day: Tehachapi’s traditional Memorial Day observance will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 27, at Philip Marx Central Park in downtown Tehachapi. Instead of a parade on Memorial Day, TVRPD plans a Veterans Day parade this year.
Car cruise and show: A
new event, Thunder on the Mountain Spring Cruise, starts at 8 a.m. June 1 at the Keene Cafe in Keene and ends at P-Dubs Mountain Bowling with a car show. Sponsored by the Greater Tehachapi Chamber of Commerce.
Wine event: Sip & Savor Tehachapi will be held at
Brite Lake from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 22. The district will partner with the Tehachapi Winegrowers Commission for the event which will include live music. Tickets are now on sale. The $65 admission includes a keepsake tasting glass, three 5-ounce pours and three appetizers. Additional
food and wine tickets will be available for purchase at the event. A $30 designated driver ticket will include non-alcoholic beverages and three appetizers.
There is a limit for both types of admission and participants must plan to pick up their wristbands between 5 and 7 p.m. June 21 at Tehachapi Wine & Cattle Company in Cummings Valley.

Junior Rodeo: Sponsored by Tehachapi Mountain Rodeo Association, competitions are set for June 1-2, July 27-28 and Aug. 24 with finals on Aug. 25. Entries will go live on April 20 at tehachapiprorodeo.com.
July 4: Events include the All American Fourth of July Festival, which includes fireworks in the city, the All American 5K sponsored by TVRPD and Bad Bulls, sponsored by Tehachapi Mountain Rodeo Association. Other events for residents and guests will be held in Bear Valley Springs. Details to be announced.
Oldtimers Reunion:
Sponsored by TVRPD with major support from the city of Tehachapi, the Oldtimers Reunion is always on the first Sunday in August. This year that’s Sunday, Aug. 4. The event will be held at Philip Marx Central Park in downtown Tehachapi. Reservations are required.

Tehachapi Mountain Festival: The big event of the summer is sponsored by the chamber and includes just about every other organization in town. As always, it’s set for the third weekend in August. This year that’s Aug. 17 and 18. The rodeo, sponsored by TMRA, is set for Aug. 16 and 17. Other details to be announced.
Beer event: Brews on the Mountain, sponsored by TVRPD, from 2 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, at West Park, 490 W. D St., Tehachapi. Details at tvrpd. org.
Car show: This year, the Thunder on the Mountain car show will be held on Sept. 28 (details to be announced). Sponsored by the chamber.
Carnival, Tehachapi Apple Festival and rodeo:
The Tehachapi Apple Festival, sponsored by the chamber, will take place Oct. 11 through 13 with a carnival and other activities. The Apple Festival Rodeo, sponsored by TMRA, is planned for Oct. 12. Details for all will be announced.
