Varsity track and field medals at Patriot Games, Dinuba Invite

Friday afternoon saw THS Varsity Track and Field divide into two factions to maximize their season accomplish­ments to date. THS sent six athletes to mingle and compete with 22 other schools in the prestigiou­s Patriot Games held at Liberty High School in Bakersfiel­d. The gathering featured some of the elite high school athletes around the Central Section. THS finished 11th and 15th overall in team scoring.

Personal bests recorded were: Claire Shadduck in the 400 (1:00.98) and winning the bronze medal. Delilah Cardenas (50.52) and Giselle Cardenas (54.35) in the 300 hurdles. Leo Gonzalez (42.97) and Kevin Chitwood (45.43) also in the 300 hurdles. Besides Shadduck and Leo Gonzalez also grabbed a bronze medal with a third-place finish in the 110 hurdles (15.86). Special note of the day saw Austin Anderson continue his excellent season with two bronze medals in the long jump (20’7”) and the triple jump (41’7”). Both were personal bests for Anderson.

At the same time, 13 other varsity athletes traveled to Dinuba after posting marks to enter in the Dinuba Invite. Twenty-one Central Section schools were there for the day of track and field competitio­n. THS had 15 total personal bests recorded on the day.

Putting up personal bests on the day were as follows: Marissa Grier (15.81) for the 100 dash. Arwen Lambert (13’9.5”) in the long jump. For the THS varsity boys: Travis Mason had a PR in the discus (94’ 8”) and Mark Nicholson (34’6”) in the shot put.

For the boys’ running, it was Levi Hart (1:00.16) in the 400 and Noah Welton (19.82) in the 300 hurdles. Kenneth Pitt saw personal bests posted in both the shot put (38’ 2.5”) and the discus (98’ 10”).

THS Varsity Track and Field prepares now for the Thunderbir­d Classic this Friday at RFK High School and then SYML Championsh­ips at South High on April 30.
