Oxford High freshman takes top honor
The votes have been tabulated, and the Telegram & Gazette Student of the Week is Michelle Annancy of Oxford High School.
The high-achieving freshman topped a three-way field in the most recent poll, collecting 61% of the 275 votes that were cast.
“Michelle’s dedication to science is the definition of why teachers become teachers,” the school wrote in its nomination. “The freshman is so enthusiastic about labs and is always asking intuitive questions about science.”
The T&G asked high school principals, teachers and guidance counselors to nominate students they say have shown outstanding school achievement and community service.
Besides Michelle, other students considered for the Student of the Week were:
Sam Bui, Burncoat High School: The senior, who will attend Northeastern University, has an ambition for learning and trying new things that sets him apart from his peers. He is incredibly driven and he sets high standards for himself. Sam has used his entrepreneurial skills to create a successful small business called Resurge Vending LLC. Sam cofounded the vending machine business, comprising 25-plus unique beverage products generating $500-plus monthly recurring revenue from one machine.
Gina Falasca, Fitchburg High School: Gina, a senior, embodies a steadfast commitment to academic excellence, driven by a strong work ethic and a genuine passion for positively impacting the lives of others. Her insightful contributions consistently foster an engaging and enriching learning environment characterized by her infectious enthusiasm. Demonstrating exceptional dedication, Gina participates in a variety of extracurricular activities including volleyball, flag football and softball. Her adept collaborative skills are evident both in her academic pursuits and extracurricular engagements, solidifying her status as a standout student with a clear vision for her future in nursing.
