Falcons salvage split with Raiders

Rivier 9, Fitchburg State 8; Fitchburg State 11, Rivier 2: Sydney Gabay and Danielle Forth each went 3 for 4 and combined for five RBIs in the second game for the Falcons (4-8), who scored three runs in the fourth inning, three in the fifth and five in the sixth to put away the Raiders (7-7) and secure a doublehead­er split in Nashua, New Hampshire.

Fitchburg State’s Jessica Mueller had four hits and two RBIs in the first game, and teammate Molly Grass homered and drove in three runs.

Brandeis 14, WPI 6; WPI 7, Brandeis 7: Riley O’Brien delivered a two-run homer in the fifth inning of the second game to put the Engineers (3-4-2) ahead, but the Judges (4-5-1) rallied for four runs in the sixth in the tie in Waltham.

Emma Nagy belted a two-run homer in the first inning of the opener for the Engineers, and Virginia McKinney (3 for 3, double) connected for a solo shot in the fourth of a six-inning game. McKinney had five hits for the day.

Baseball

Amherst 11, Worcester State 6; Amherst 17, Worcester State 16: Colin Fitzgerald’s two-run double capped a fiverun first inning in the second game, and Jeremy DeLacruz rapped a three-run double in the 10-run fourth for the Lancers (1-8), but the Mammoths (7-2) rallied for seven runs in the seventh to sweep a doublehead­er in Davenport, Florida.

Joe Auger, Nathan Thurber and Ryan Jewett singled in runs for Worcester State in a four-run fifth inning of the opener.

Suffolk 7, Nichols 4; Suffolk 7, Nichols 5: Johnny Knox went 3 for 4 with a three-run homer and two stolen bases in the nightcap for the host Bison (9-5), but the Rams (11-4) scored seven runs in the fourth inning and held on for the sweep in Dudley, in the first Commonweal­th Coast Conference games of the season for both teams.

In the first game, Patrick Sawyer struck out eight in eight innings, and Jim Marasco, Andrew Croteau and Ben Jerome each had two hits for Nichols, which had its six-game winning streak snapped.

AIC 3, Assumption 2; AIC 4, Assumption 3: The visiting Greyhounds (5-14, 0-2 Northeast-10) lost a pair of walk-offs to the Yellow Jackets (6-13, 2-3) in Springfiel­d. In the first game, Assumption’s Cody Smith homered, and Matthew Holbrook tripled and scored on a throwing error, but AIC won on a 10th-inning home run.

The Hounds’ Justin Ray struck out seven in six innings of two-hit ball in the nightcap, but the Jackets rallied for three runs in the seventh for the win.

Thomas 3, Fitchburg State 2; Thomas 9, Fitchburg State 1: Adam Koza hit a run-scoring double in the first inning of Game 1, and Cole DuHaime singled in a run in the second for the host Falcons (4-11) against the Terriers (4-7).

Fitchburg State’s Luke Sterner had an RBI single in the nightcap.

Colby-Sawyer 9, Anna Maria 2: Kosta Drosidis was 2 for 4 and drove in both runs for the host AmCats (6-9, 0-1 GNAC) in a loss to the Chargers (8-6, 1-0) at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborou­gh. Anna Maria’s Andrew Denison also had two hits.

Men’s tennis

Army 4, Holy Cross 1: Declan O’Flynn won fourth singles in straight sets for the visiting Crusaders (1-6, 0-2 Patriot) in a loss to the Black Knights (810, 1-0).
