Dance the night away while raising funds for a good cause
Every Friday and Saturday night, the Sagebrush Inn features live music in its legendary cantina. This weekend two local bands will be using the venue to raise spirits and funds for the Taos Community Foundation. So, if you’re looking for some fun this weekend, you can brush up on your dance steps and support a good cause.
Chris Morel Sr. is a wellknown Taos painter as well as a musician who plays a blend of country, blues and rock ‘n’ roll. He’ll play with Charlie Woehler and the 518s on Friday night (March 30).
The Bad Boys are a local rock and Spanish music band that have played together since the 1980s. They will take the stage on Saturday (March 31). Both bands will perform from 8-11 p.m. No cover is charged.
Both concerts are part of a weeklong series of events to launch the 365 Grand Club: Taos Edition and support the Taos Community Foundation. All of this week, the Sagebrush Inn is offering a percentage of its beverage and restaurant sales to Taos Community Foundation.
Friday and Saturday, an allnight happy hour lasts from 4-11 p.m. with 20 percent of proceeds also going to the foundation. Prizes, including a six-month 365 Grand Club membership, will also be raffled.
“The week of March 2631, Sagebrush Inn and 365 Grand Club will be hosting multiple events that benefit the community and raise money for Taos Community Foundation,” Alanna Marohn said. Marohn is the Sagebrush Inn’s general manager. “Taos Community Foundation works directly with nonprofit organizations in the area to provide needed resources for the community and improve opportunities.”
Marohn said the Taos Community Foundation was chosen as a beneficiary because of the impact they have in the community. “They are a well-rounded organization,” she said. “We thought they’d be a good fit.”
The Sagebrush Inn was purchased by Timeless Management in December. Marohn said the new management, which is based
in Colorado Springs, is making efforts to reconnect the Sagebrush Inn & Suites with the wider Taos community.
This includes launching the 365 Grand Club: Taos Edition. The club already operates in Colorado Springs. Now, they are expanding into the Taos area.
Marohn explained, “365 Grand Club is a no-contract monthly membership that gives cardholders perks in Taos and Colorado Springs, including 10 percent off partnering businesses, such as Casa de Valdez Restaurant, High Altitude Spa and Turquoise Tours.”
In addition, the 365 Grand Club will hold mixers in Taos several times a year, featuring local partnering
businesses. Its first was a “Local Appreciation Day,” a free community barbecue at the Sagebrush Inn & Suites in partnership with Ace Hardware Wednesday (March 28).
“365 Grand Club operates off the principle that the more successful businesses in the community surrounding Sagebrush are, the more successful Sagebrush will be,” Marohn said.
Taos Community Foundation Director Lisa O’Brien said the organization is honored to be selected as a recipient of the Sagebrush Inn’s fundraising efforts this week. She said the funds raised will be used for supporting the work the foundation does in the community.
The foundation was established in 1998. Its stated mission is to connect “people and opportunities, generating resources to build a more creative, caring, and thriving community.”
The foundation recently moved into a new location and increased its staff. “We’ve had an amazing last year and a half,” O’Brien said.
In addition to supporting the Taos Community Foundation this week, Marohn said, “We will also be celebrating ‘First Responder Appreciation Week’ by discounting an additional 10 percent off all food and beverages to anyone who shows their badge.”
