Texarkana native is new UAPB fishing team coach
PINE BLUFF, Ark.— Scott Jones, a native of Texarkana, Texas, is the new coach of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff competitive fishing team.
Jones joined the Aquaculture/ Fisheries Center of Excellence at UAPB as an instructor/ extension specialist.
Jones will develop an extension and research program related to managing farm ponds and reservoirs and teach an undergraduate course in recreational fishing.
He will also develop a youth-fishing education program.
Jones is the son of Robert R. Jones and Traci Jones of Queen City, Texas, and has a master’s degree in aquaculture and fisheries management from UAPB and a bachelor’s degree in range, wildlife and fisheries management from Texas Tech University in Lubbock.
He is the founder of the UAPB competitive fishing team.
“In this position, he will serve as coach and continue to work to build UAPB’s fishing team,” said Dr. Carole Engle, director/chair of the UAPB Aquaculture/ Fisheries Center.
“He will also work with high schools to build competitive high school fishing teams. His passion for fishing will be put to good use in his work with farm pond owners to assist them to improve management of their ponds.”
Arkansas has more than 127,000 privately-owned ponds that are managed for fisheries, wildlife and aesthetic purposes as well as one of the highest angler participation rates in the United States.
The Aquaculture/ Fisheries Center provides research-based extension recommendations in Arkansas for aquaculture, fisheries and small impoundments.
