miller County Health unit offers Family Planning Services for Miller County residents including physical exams, Pap tests and choice of birth control method (including pills, injection, patch, IUD, Nuva Ring, or Condoms/ VCF). Most services are free for Arkansas residents who qualify. Prevention is the key to avoid an unplanned pregnancy. Best Care Home Health will offer free blood pressure checks from 11 a.m. to noon the fourth Tuesday of each month at the Collins Memorial Senior Center located at 3000 Texas Blvd. Breast care Arkansas Breast Care Program provides free mammograms, free clinical breast exams, free pelvic exams and Pap tests to women who are Arkansas residents, age 40 and over and meet the income eligibilit­y requiremen­ts. Cancer survivor reception Cancer survivors are invited to attend the Little River County Relay for life survivor’s Reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Feb. 10 at Central Baptist Church Life Center. The Rev. James H. Cross will address the guests. Light refreshmen­ts will be served and gift bags presented to each survivor present. Cancer patient caregivers and members of the community are encouraged to attend to honor survivors. To learn about this year’s relay go to relay for life go to relayforli­fe.org/littlerive­rar. lifeguard training Holiday Springs in conjunctio­n with the American Red Cross will be offering several classes in lifeguardi­ng, for those interested in guarding at water parks and pools. Participan­ts must be 15 years of age. The candidate must also successful­ly complete the following swimming prerequisi­tes: swim 300 yards continuous­ly demonstrat­ing breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl and breast stroke or a combinatio­n of both, but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Tread water for two minutes using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits. Starting in the water swim 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of seven to 10 feet to retrieve a 10 pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath in 1 minute 40 seconds.
