Hot Springs woman wanted in burglaries

- —Jim Williamson

A Hot Springs, Ark., woman is a suspect in a series of burglaries near the Bingen community, reports Hempstead County Sheriff James Singleton.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Kimberly Bakke, 37.

Two houses in the 1500 block and one in the 1600 block of state Highway 27 North were burglarized.

One of the victims noticed two quilts missing from the quilt rack.

Money stored in a tin can and six silver dollars were stolen, according to the report.

The second victim said she was at work and another person was cleaning her house. The person cleaning the house left about 2 p.m. after she was finished.

The victim arrived home about 4:15 p.m. and went to the bathroom. She noticed a cabinet had things hanging out and her makeup table was pulled out.

She then discovered the back door was open and the door frame “was messed up.”

She found several candles, a comforter and some clothes missing. The victim also said two bottles of liquor were missing.

A third victim in the 1600 block of Highway 27 said he was in his garden and noticed a black Dodge dually drive into the backyard.

The victim said a white female got out with a small child.

The white female approached him and just started talking to him. The suspect said she was from Tennessee and was here to visit family, Singleton said.

The woman pointed at the neighbor’s house and said she was visiting the family across the road, but they would not answer the door.

The victim said the woman told him she needed to use his restroom. The victim let her go inside and showed her where the bathroom was.

The victim went into the living room and sat down. He noticed the woman came out a different way from the way he showed her.

After the woman left, the victim noticed his bottle of prescription pain medicine was missing.

Deputies investigating the burglaries were able to identify a suspect and recover some of the reported missing items.

By late Tuesday afternoon, most of the stolen items were recovered by deputies and returned to the owners, Singleton said.

A warrant for burglary and theft of property has been issued for Bakke.

She is a white female about 5 feet 4 inches tall with blonde hair and blue eyes.

Bakke is reportedly driving a 1995 dark blue Dodge dually 1ton pickup with Arkansas license plate number 625-RNY. Bakke has been entered into the National and Arkansas crime information centers as a wanted person and may be traveling with her 18- to 24-month-old daughter.
