And a singer from Seminole, Texas, had her 44th hit song!
According to Elsie McWilliams, Jimmie Rodgers (her brother-in-law) could not read music. He played music by ear, so she accompanied him to most of his recording sessions to help him with the music.
McWilliams commented, “I would often write words to songs while we were traveling and during one of those trips to record, Jimmie began talking about his dad and his life as a kid.
“After listening to Jimmie, I wrote the words to ‘Daddy and Home.’ And when I got back home, I wrote the music to the song. Jimmie liked the song and recorded it in 1928 in Camden, N.J.”
Years later, “Daddy And Home” became Tanya Tucker’s 44th charted song.
Her Capitol records single entered the country music charts July 22, 1989, and peaked at No. 27.
It was on the country charts for 15 weeks.
