Cheers & Jeers

-

JEERS: To Mayor Wayne Smith for his continuing bitterness toward our city manager. It would seem the politicians on the other side of town would have shown him how embarrassing it is to the citizens (voters) when city laundry is aired in the paper. Most of us get our information from the newspaper concerning city business and depend on our elected directors to “take care of business.” They chose Harold Boldt to be our city manager. Mayor Smith: deal with it; get over it and get on with it. Or we may get someone who will.—J.H., Texarkana, Ark.

JEERS: To those people that insist on talking on their cellphones in locations where we go to relax, i.e. beauty shops, nail salons, etc, and other locations that cater to us that wish to just “be.” Especially taxing is cellphones going strong on both sides. Please, let us enjoy our time with hearing all your personal business.—B.B., Texarkana, Texas

JEERS: To whomever cancelled the AHS vs. Parkway game Friday, Sept. 20, the only game in town that was cancelled, not to be made up. And you have a turf field. My suspicions are that you probably would have lost to the highly touted Shreveport team. I also suspect that if you polled the football players, band members, four cheer squads; 100% of them would vote to play after a week’s worth of preparation. Especially after a good win the previous week. Is this what we’re teaching our students? If the task at hand is a tough one, let’s do an “end around” or is it just a case of Chicken Little, “The sky is falling.” We need a Swede Lee or a Johnny Toombs or somebody with some guts to restore pride and tradition to a once-proud program!—J.P., Texarkana, Ark.

JEERS: Obama, inspired by his un-American brand of liberalism, and ulterior motives, fights to put all guns in control of an increasingly corrupt government, that is primarily bent on removing any power or influence from everyone opposed to his agenda. Focusing on guns, he and others of his ilk, have developed a mental block that prevents admission of liberalism’s complicity in undermining America’s moral fabric, which has been the real cause of the increase of violence (of every type) throughout society. Unwilling to admit their part in removing the supreme moral authority—God—from American institutions, and supporting ungodly influences, they are guilty in attempts to remove the only absolute source of safety.—D.H.M., Texarkana, Ark.

JEERS: How long ago was it, we in Texarkana thought Garland City, Ark., was “Lucy & Ethel?” Boy, look at Texarkana, Ark., now! Clowns, jugglers, high wire acts. Be careful who you snicker at.—D.L. Texarkana, Ark.
