Rabbs bounce back, beat Class 4A Tigers

MOUNT PLEASANT, Texas—Don't count out the Atlanta Rabbits just yet.

The Rabbs, after losing last week to Gladewater, bounced back and posted a convincing 32-14 victory over Class 4A Mount Pleasant on Friday night at Sam Parker Field.

Both teams are now 3-2 following the last nondistric­t game of the year.

DeQuan Allen ignited the Atlanta attack with 171 yards on 21 carries and a touchdown. He also passed for a TD. Allen bolted 59 yards on his touchdown run and later team with Chase Musgrave for a 26-yard TD toss.

Atlanta's other scores were a 6-yard run by Damien Lawson, Nigel Johnson's 27yard pass from Musgrove, and Eddrick King's 7-yard run.

Both of Mount Pleasant's scores came in the second half. Andrew Flanagan caught a 57-yard scoring strike from Cullen Grubbs, and Jaquelle Rodgers latched onto a 66-yard from Grubbs.

Atlanta's defense forced four turnovers while the Rabbs turned the ball over twice. Mount Vernon 27, Hooks 24

HOOKS, Texas—Both teams scored all 53 points in the game in the first half as the two district rivals tried to outgun each other before the defense took over after intermissi­on.

Jimmie Houston and D.D. Dickerson scored on rushing touchdowns of 67 and 20 yards in response to Mount Vernon quarterbac­k Sam Alston's TD passes of 36 and 23 yards in between the Hornets scores.

Kris Ables zipped over from 25 yards away to take a 2-16 lead at the end of the first quarter. Then it was Hooks turn to take the lead, this time on a 99-yard cross field run by Dickerson and a successful two-point conversion by Houston with 5:35 to go in the half.

Unfortunat­ely, the Hornets lead failed to stand up. Three minutes later Alston added what turned out to be the last score of the night on a 7-yard keeper late in the second quarter. New Boston 48, Queen City 6

NEW BOSTON, Texas— New Boston continues to roll on its pace for a second consecutiv­e unbeaten season.

The Lions (5-0) are halfway there following their runaway win Friday night over the improved Bulldogs (3-2).

New Boston built a 21-6 halftime lead and blew open the game with a 20-point surge in the third stanza.

The Lions scored three TDs in the first half. Aaron Conkleton passed 10 yards to Jeff Gladney for the first TD.

The Bulldogs scored their lone TD with 8:00 minutes left in the second quarter when Drew Davenport bolted over from 2 yards out. The run failed, leaving the hosts on top 7-6. It was as close at Queen City would get, with the Lions scoring the game's final 41 points.

Other NB scores were: Conkleton's 52-yard pass to Jawann Johnson, Davontae Wade on a 23-yard run, Conkleton's 43-yard run, Conkleton's 30-yard pass to Gladney, T.Q. Dedmon's 6-yard run and Wade's 54 run.

The Lions finished with 397 yards total offense while holding Queen City to 120. New Boston also recovered three fumbles while losing two.

Paul Pewitt 53, DeKalb 6

DEKALB, Texas—Coming off an open date, Paul Pewitt didn't miss a beat, defeating DeKalb for its third straight win in as many games.

The Brahmas distanced themselves quickly by scoring 28 unanswered points in the first quarter. All four of the touchdowns came in a eight minute stretch.

Pewitt quarterbac­k Isiaah Porter rushed in from 50, 8, and 16 yards on three straight possession­s. Mitchell Ward had the Brahmas' fourth score of the quarter—a 42yard run—to take a 28-0 lead.

Both teams exchanged touchdowns in the next 12 minutes. DeKalb's Ryan Conner pushed his way into the end zone from 11 yards out for the Bears only score.

Ward, who led all runners with 161 yards in six carries, went 92 yards to the house with 2:02 left in the first half.

Zane McKay and Kevin Hannah score on running touchdowns of 11 and 3 yards in the third quarter and Lamon Hillis added a 4-yard run with 9:15 left to conclude the scoring.

Elysian Fields 28, L-K 6

ELYSIAN FIELDS, Texas—Linden-Kildare put up an early challenge when Airon Brooks scored from a yard out with 5:30 left in the first quarter, but, couldn't manufactur­e much offense after cutting Elysian Field's early lead to 7-6.

The Yellowjack­ets responded to Brooks' TD with three scores afterwards to take 28-6 at halftime and never be threatened again.

Tanner Davis accounted for two Elysian Fields' touchdowns. The first on a 20-yard run with 4:25 left in the first quarter followed by a 5-yard score with 1:40 remaining in the second quarter.

In-between Jacob Owens zipped over from the L-K 8-yard line at the eight-minute mark. Harleton 28, James Bowie 12

SIMMS, Texas—James Bowie rolled up 269 total yards, all of it on the ground, but it wasn't enough to keep visiting Harleton's offense off the field long enough to take charge.

The Wildcats drew first blood on a 10-yard Taylor Hensen-to-T.J. Davis TD pass with 9:25 in the first quarter.

James Bowie (3-2) made it 76 when Cody Adams scored on a 54-yard run on the following possession, but failed to take the lead when the ensuing two-point conversion run fell short.

Both teams exchanged scores afterwards. Henson found Jake Hamilton for 27 yards and Ty Howarth kicked the extra point to go up 14-6 at halftime. James Bowie cut the Wildcats' lead to 14-12 on Adams' second TD—a 6-yard run in the third quarter.

Harleton added two insurance touchdowns in the fourth quarter, on a 2yard Gage Knox run and a Henson-to-Hamilton 32yard pass with 3:47 remaining.

Henson connected on 12 of 17 passes for 196 yards. Adams had 167 yards in 27 carries for James Bowie.

Maud 48, Big Sandy 38

BIG SANDY, Texas—The Maud Cardinals broke a two-game losing streak with a victory oer the Wildcats.

The Cardinals are now 32 while Big Sandy tumbles to 1-4. Edgewood 47, Clarksvill­e 19

CLARKSVILL­E, Texas— Favored Edgewood wasted little time flexing it muscles over Clarksvill­e.

It was the District 8-2A, Division II opener for both teams.

Edgewood remained undefeated at 4-0 while the Blue Tigers dip to 0-4.
