Lady Bulldogs top unbeaten Hughes Springs

Queen City’s win forces three-way tie

QUEEN CITY, Texas—Host Queen City forced a three-way tie for first place in District 162A volleyball when the Lady Bulldogs knocked off previously unbeaten Hughes Springs on Friday.

Queen City, now knotted with Hooks and Hughes Springs at 4-1 each, secured the 17-25 , 25-17, 25-21, 25-22 victory by winning three straight sets after losing the opener.

Kelsie Benson had a doubledoub­le leading Queen City with 13 points and 16 digs. Teammate Alyssa Wiley followed with 10 points. Brianna Watkins also had an outstandin­g effort with 20 kills.

On the defensive end Alexa Oestmann contribute­d 30 digs and Shiloh Goecko blocked 10 Hughes Springs spikes.

The Lady Mustangs (18-9) was paced by Destiny Gonzales with 12 points, and Ashlin Roach added 10 points and 10 kills. Breanne Gunn had 21 kills and Katherina Dietrich added 12. Kayla Watkins also had 10 assists.

Hooks wins in five

HOOKS, Texas—Hooks and Daingerfie­ld battled down the to the wire, with the host Lady Hornets holding on for a 3-2 victory.

Hooks won Daingerfie­ld, 10-

25, 25-13, 21-25, 25-21, 15-9.

The win, coupled with Queen City's win over former District 16-2A leader Hughes Springs, moves the Hornets into a threeway tie among those three teams at 4-1.

Juniors Kaylee and Haley Price, no relation, led the hosts, with Kaylee having 20 kills and 10 service points and Haley 24 assists and 10 points. Deja James also served 13 points for the hosts.

Pewitt overtakes L-K

NAPLES-OMAHA, Texas— Sam Parrish distribute­d 22 assists and scored 24 points from the service line to help lift Paul Pewitt to a 22-25, 25-20, 2518, 25-20 win over District 16-2A opponent Linden-Kildare.

The Lady Brahmas got additional strong performanc­es from Haley Anderson, who provided 10 kills, six points and five digs and Morgan Hartgrove who finished with seven points and kills along with four blocks. Divana Williams scored nine and had seven kills.

DeKalb notches victory

DEKALB, Texas—DeKalb registered its first District 17-2A win by knocking off Clarkville's Blue Tigers in straight sets, 25-

20, 25-21, 25-21.

Both teams are now 1-3 in league play.

Kim Russell topped the Lady Bears (13-15) with 14 service points, Krissy Williams had 19 digs and 16 assists and Glenisha Coffey 15 kills and four blocks.

DeKalb plays at Mount Vernon on Tuesday.

Atlanta sweeps

PITTSBURG, Texas—Atlanta came into Pirates Gym and quickly made itself a home by wrapping up a 25-17, 25-19, 25-13 decision against the host team.

Diversity was the key for the Lady Rabbs (11-11, 1-0 District 13-3A), who got strong efforts from five players. Lakia James led Atlanta with 12 kills. Keanoria Thomas fired in 13 points, Ashlyn Dodson led the team in assists with 20, Dani Birmingham provided five serving aces and Morgan Maxwell had a team-high 12 digs.

Pittsburg is off until Oct. 1 when the Lady Pirates resume play at Pleasant Grove.

Redwater outlasts New Boston

REDWATER, Texas—It took five sets to get the win, but Redwater got the job done. The Lady Dragons (15-12, 3-2 District 16-2A) where pushed into a deciding fifth set when New Boston tied the match at two games each.

Redwater took the contest 1925, 25-21, 25-21, 15-25, 15-11 on the collective double-digit efforts of five players. Abby Burns (14 digs, 11 points) and Courtney Pedron (18 kills, 11 digs, seven blocks) both recorded doubledoub­les. Krista Sallgren added 15 kills and setter Allison Wright had 22 assists.

Jacey Thomas ignited the Lady Lions with 22 points and 20 assists, Marqushia Thompson and MaKenzie Madill added 16 and 15 blocks, respective­ly. Chick Johnson had 16 digs, followed by Thompson and Madill with 14 and 13. Tye McDonald also had 20 assists.

Lady Pirates go to 4-0

SIMMS, Texas—James Bowie remained undefeated at 4-0 in District 18-A play by sweeping Detroit, 25-22, 25-23, 25-13.

Reagan Williams led the victors with 13 service points and 11 kills, Kayla Burks had 14 digs, Kaitlynn Crabtree 13 assists and and eight points, and Copia Addy 12 digs.

Detroit won the JV match, 2523, 26-24. Madison Beal served 12 points for the hosts.

The Pirates play Tuesday at Sulphur Bluff in their next district match.
