REDWATER, Texas—After a tough pre-district schedule, Daingerfield found its winning ways again with a 267 victory over Redwater in a District 8-2A, Division 1 opener Friday night at Dragon Field.
Cordarius Anderson scored all four of Daingerfield's touchdowns on runs of 14, 5, 2, and 20 yards. He finished with 122 yards on 15 carries.
Daingerfield raises its record to 23, while Redwater falls to 1-3 on the season.
Behind the running of Anderson and the passing of quarterback Keris Alexander, Daingerfield took a 19-0 halftime lead.
Anderson carried the ball 12 times for 95 yards and three touchdowns.
After an onsides kick by Redwater to start the game, Daingerfield took over at its 48yard line, and marched 52 yards in nine plays, with Anderson scoring on a 14-yard run.
Redwater moved the ball well on its first possession, driving 58 yards from its 34 to the Tigers' 8-yard line in 13 plays. The drive stalled there, and a 25-yard field goal attempt by Michael Cochran was wide, leaving the score, 7-0, early in the second quarter.
Daingerfield scored two touchdowns in the second period on 5-yard and 2-yard runs by Anderson. Alexander completed 6 of 8 passes for 74 yards.
Cochran was the leading ball carrier for Redwater with 35 yards on nine attempts.
All kinds of things went wrong for Redwater in the third quarter, but the Dragons played Daingerfield on even terms, with each team scoring just one touchdown.
Redwater committed two fumbles and had a 28-yard loss on a bad snap on a punt attempt. Daingerfield was only able to score one touchdown from those mistakes, a 20-yard run by Anderson.
Redwater scored its only touchdown with 14 seconds left in the game.
The Dragons marched 71 yards in 17 plays with Cochran scoring on a 4-yard run. Matthew Candelaria played a major role in the drive with 35 yards on nine carries.
