Man faces three federal drug charges
A man accused of distributing methamphetamine in the Texarkana area in May has been indicted by an Arkansas federal court.
Ma rcu s “Fifty” Floyd is listed in a three- count indictment handed down Oct. 30. The indictment was unsealed Friday.
Floyd was arrested Nov. 14 on a warrant issued in the Texarkana division of the Western District of Arkansas after the indictment was handed down by a federal grand jury.
Floyd appeared Nov. 15 before U.S. Magistrate Judge Caroline Craven on the Arkansas-side of Texarkana’s downtown federal building for arraignment. Floyd entered pleas of not guilty to all three counts with the help of Texarkana lawyer John Stroud.
Craven typically handles cases across the hallway, on the Texas side of the federal building, but is able to cross state lines and serve as judge when her Arkansas counterpart, U.S. Magistrate Judge Barry Bryant
isn’t available. Bryant is likewise cross-designated and fills in for Craven when the need arises.
Floyd waived his right to a hearing to determine if he will remain in custody or be free on bond while his case proceeds. Floyd is in the custody of U.S. marshals.
Craven scheduled Floyd’s case for trial Dec. 20 before U.S. District Judge Susan Hickey.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Quinn, who is prosecuting the case, said each of the offenses is punishable by up to 20 years in federal prison.
