Blevins, Spring Hill junior high teams advance to semifinals

GENOA, Ark.—Blevins and Spring Hills’ boys and girls teams advanced to their respective division’s semifinals on second-round wins of the Geona Junior High basketball tournament Thursday.

Both of Blevins’ teams defeated Trinity Christian by large margins. Glen Tate scored 18 points in the Hornets boys 5118 outcome. Noah Smith netted five points for Trinity.

Blevins’ girls coasted to a 4428 decision against the Lady Warriors. Alyssa Richardson and Amonie Furlow threw down 11 points for the Lady Hornets. Halah Nelson led Trinity with 15.

Spring Hill nipped Lafayette County, 36-30, in the other boys contest. Trey Finley scored 15 for the Bears, and Culan Williams netted 10 for the Cougars.

Laura Kidd poured in 18 points to spark the girls to a 50-8 decision over Bradley.

All semifinal games are Saturday at Dragon Gym. The four-game slate tips off at 11 a.m. with the Spring Hill-Blevins girls game. At noon, Blivens’ boys face Emerson followed by the Genoa-Emerson girls at 1:15 p.m. and Genoa vs. Spring Hill boys at 2:30 p.m.

Semifinal winners move on to the championsh­ip games that evening at 6 p.m (girls) and 7:20 p.m. (boys).

In a pair of late Thursday results, Genoa Central’s girls downed Blevins, 45-19, to move to 4-0 on the year. Earlier, the jayvee Lady Dragons defeated Blevins, 48-30.
