Police arrest suspect in slaying

Man wanted in Barrios’ death found in Oklahoma

A suspect in the death of a Texarkana, Ark., man has been arrested.

Miguel “Angel” Martinez, 24, was apprehende­d Thursday in Tulsa, Okla., by the Tulsa Police Department’s Fugitive Task Force on a warrant for first-degree murder in connection with the death of Jamie “Jimmy” Barrios, 57, of Texarkana, Ark.

Around 1 p.m. Nov. 16, a caller to the Texarkana, Ark., Police Department reported suspicious circumstan­ces concerning a home at 1413 County Ave. When officers arrived, they found Barrios’ lifeless body in an apartment situated behind the home.

Barrios’ body was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for autopsy. ASCL officials determined the cause of death was severe head trauma.

Kristi Mitchell, public informatio­n officer for the TAPD, said Martinez will be extradited to Arkansas from Oklahoma.

She said the investigat­ion into the crime is ongoing and additional details are not available at this time.

“Texarkana, Ark., Police Department Criminal Investigat­ion detectives have spent countless hours investigat­ing this crime and have been in constant contact with the Tulsa Oklahoma Fugitive Task Force today to bring this fugitive to justice,” she said.
