Tri-Schools alumni banquet scheduled

The Tri-Schools Alumni Association will host its 17th annual Unity Banquet beginning 6 p.m. Dec. 14 at Texas High School’s Dan Haskins Student Center.

Organized by Morris Neighbors in 1996 for the purpose of combining alumni groups from Dunbar, Macedonia and Washington high schools in Texarkana, Texas, the association members work together to perpetuate the legacy of the city’s three former black high schools and to promote local black youth.

The annual banquet provides six students a forum in which to demonstrate their artistic and public speaking talents, thereby gaining recognition and cash awards. The students are recommended for this honor by counselors and/or principals.

This year’s speakers are Vernicia Griffie from Texas High, Deandra Carroll from Liberty-Eylau and Clifton Harris from Arkansas High. The three talents are Cortlandt Bursey-Reece form THS, Devon Reynolds from LEHS and Ashlee Hood from AHS.

Dan Haskins, retired public school administrator, will be guest speaker.

The association will also honor an outstanding citizen with an achievement award.

Tickets are $15, and the deadline for reservations is Dec. 7.
