Lady Backs win benefit game

Arkansas High, which officially begins its season at Pleasant Grove Monday, invoked the Arkansas mercy rule against visiting Haworth, Okla., Thursday in a benefit game.

The Lady Backs opened the first quarter on a 23-8 rally and never looked back as nine different players scored.

Jasmine Allen pumped in 15 points for AHS, and Keondra Flemons and Makayla Henry added 10 points apiece.

Carly Jo Adams led Haworth with 10 points.

Arkansas High won the junior varsity game, 41-39, with Clishawna Smith and Whitney Green popping in eight points apiece. Cody Jo Adams led Haworth with 19 points.

atlanta 66, avinger 13

DIANA, Texas—Atlanta rolled past Avinger in the first round of the New Diana tournament.

Jasmine Rowe and Crystal Jones each scored 12 to lead the Lady Rabbs, who play again at 6 p.m. today.

Atlanta went on a 24-2 run in the first quarter and led 42-5 at halftime.

Lady Lions drop pair

MOUNT VERNON, Texas— New Boston had a rough go in both of its pool play games during the opening day of the Belt Buster Roundup tournament.

The Lady Lions (1-3) lost both games they played. In the morning, Gilmer reeled off a 67-43 decision. Later, New Boston fell, 51-36, to Harmony.

Brandi Crowder and Marquesha Thompson had 12 and 11 points, respective­ly for New Boston in the Gilmer loss. Gilmer, led by Christian Brown's 14, had five players score 10 or more points.

The Lady Lions fell victim to another pair of hot shooters in the nightcap. Harmony's Jacy Lloyd led all scorers with 22 points and got another 14 from McKinna Seahorn.

Gilmer led from the start, taking a 16-5 lead at the end of the first quarter then breezed the rest of the way.

Thompson netted 16. Crowder was next with eight. New Boston wraps up pool play at 10:20 a.m. against Brownsboro before starting bracket play late Friday and Saturday.

avery sputters at tourney

MOUNT VERNON, Texas— An inconsista­nt offense cost Avery in a 43-42 loss to Van and a 54-24 defeat to host Mount Vernon at the Belt Buster Roundup Tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs (1-2) scored 15 points to lead by two after the first quarter to Van only to by outscored 22-10 in the next two periods. Attempting to make up for lost time, Avery scored 17 points while holding Van to eight in the fourth quarter.

Taylor Bowles was red hot, the senior scored a game-high 27 points. In the nightcap, Mount Vernon held Bowles to seven points and took control of the game on a 17-7 third quarter to expand a four-point lead at halftime to 14.

Avery resumes pool play at 9 a.m. against Grand Saline.

Fouke 63, Umpire 25

FOUKE, Ark.—McCainey Huff fired in 16 points, including a trio of 3-pointers and Miko Mc Elroy tossed in 10 in a one-sided home victory against Umpire, which found itself down 23-11 after the first quarter.

The Lady Panthers (2-1) defense got tougher as the game progressed. After giving up double figures to their opponent, Fouke held Umpire to single figures, declining in number each of the proceeding three quarters.

Hayley Bearden led Umpire with eight points. Amanda Parsons and Rosa Salinas had six each.

Fouke defeated Umpire, 6314, in a junior high girls game. Summer Flowers had 18 and Jaci Johnson contribute­d 12 points for the Lady Panthers, who move to 3-1 on the win.

Subvarsity Hogs claim title

IDABEL, Okla.—North Heights' seven grade boys won the Idabel tournament championsh­ip with a 51-34 win over Ashdown.

Tyrie Black led the Razorbacks with 19 points.

The Hogs host Fouke Monday at 5 p.m. at Arkansas High.

tMS doubles-up

Texas Middle School took both ends of a eighth-grade doublehead­er against district rival Sulphur Springs Thursday at TMS.

The Tigers ‘A' team rolled to a 42-24 win fueled by Caleb Wilson's 13 points along with eight from Vonderic Stanley and Elias Thurman. The ‘B' team rang up a 37-11 outcome in their game. Brandon Roberts led TMS with nine. Connor Chandler and Jaquevion Kirkendall both added six points each. Both teams are 2-0 on the year and are off until Dec. 5 when they travel to Mount Pleasant.

prescott rolls

ARKADELPHI­A, Ark.— Prescott opened its season in an impressive manner, winning both games against host Arkadelphi­a by large margins. The Lady Wolves breezed to a 36-13 win of the ninth grade game and earned a 32-13 eighth grade victory.

Lacie Nolan had eight points for Prescott in the ninth grade game and Anna Byers led Prescott with 11 in the eighth grade win.

tMS takes two

SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas— The Lady Tigers were just as successful on the road. The eighth grade team took a 34-31 nail-biter with Hailee Nero leading the way with 16 points. Earlier, the seventh grade team applied a 47-11 pounding. Antonia Porter had 13 for TMS, who are off until Dec. 5 for a home game with Mount Pleasant.

Leopard JV wins pair

PARIS, Texas—Liberty-Eylau won both of its game sin the opening day of the North Lamar tournament.

The Leopards beat Paris, 6849, with Malcolm Gant scoring 14 points, and L-E topped Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill, 5643, behind Donelle Hoof's eight points.

The Leopard ninth grade split, beating Mount Vernon, 44-7, but losing to Paris, 40-37. Kourvasia Dunbar scored 16 in the L-E win, and Michael Lindley had 14 in the loss to the Wildcats.
